Preamble

Cuervo y Sobrinos is the only true luxury watch brand with a genuine Latin heritage. Inspired and driven by Havana's golden years, Cuervo y Sobrinos watches evoke a flamboyant and legendary lifestyle. Our watches bear witness to a magical and luxurious world of exceptional quality, elegance, creativity, exoticism, and joie de vivre. Swiss made, Latin heritage: The exceptional combination of Swiss craftsmanship with a vibrant Latin heritage gives Cuervo y Sobrinos a unique and inimitable asset within the Swiss watchmaking industry.

The story

In 1862, Don Ramon Cuervo, from Asturias, established his first jewelry store in Havana. The business grew and Don Ramon was joined by his nephews, giving rise to the name Cuervo y Sobrinos (his nephews) in 1882. The store moved several times, expanding each time. In 1920, the owners opened branches in Pforzheim, Germany, for sourcing stones, and one in Paris for the jewelry trade.

In 1928, Cuervo y Sobrinos opened a watchmaking factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Since the beginning of the 20th century, Cuervo y Sobrinos has been producing its own watch models with a Latin and timeless design... and is also the sole importer in Cuba of major historic Swiss brands such as Patek Philippe (note that the Esplendidos by CyS has an identical case to the Patek Philippe of the time!), Rolex, Longines, Omega, Juvenia, Ulysse Nardin...

In the 1950s, during Cuba's golden age and when Havana was the most luxurious city in the Caribbean, the boutique and the brand attracted celebrities such as Caruso, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Clark Gable, Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Neruda...

Castro's seizure of power sounded the death knell for the independence of the boutique, which was nationalized! Until 1965, the brand still produced a few military watches for the Cuban army. Between 1965 and 1996, the house no longer produced, forced into hibernation. The brand was bought in 1997, relaunched in 2001, exhibited in Basel for the first time in 2002 and has since developed its inspired collections, rich in its Latin heritage! Finally taken over in 2018 by a pool of investors, Massimo Rossi took over as president.

The brand celebrated the founding of Havana by Christopher Columbus in 1519 by presenting some memorable limited series, and its original creations delight lovers of different and tangy watchmaking... Each watch is delivered - Havana obliges - in a sumptuous cigar humidor made of precious wood.

Cuervo y Sobrinos was a pioneer in its time! It is one of the rare watch and jewelry boutiques that decided to create its own watch brand, alongside the distribution of existing watch brands. This is also the concept adopted by Michel Fréret-Roy today in his Parisian boutique where he offers independent watch brands and also his own watch brand! This shows the common spirit that unites the two names, Cuervo y Sobrinos and Fréret-Roy!

To celebrate this communion of spirit, Fréret-Roy is one of the stores in Paris that offers the widest selection of Cuervo y Sobrinos watches. With every purchase of a Cuervo y Sobrinos watch, we will offer you a gift bearing the brand's name or logo (while stocks last).

A wide range of the collection available in store is presented below, but you can also order any model that is not available at Fréret-Roy during your visit. Don't hesitate to contact us...

Historiador Cronógrafo

Estoril

Cuervo y Sobrinos, official timekeeper of the Iberian Historic Endurance, is pleased to unveil a limited-edition chronograph, the Historiador Cronógrafo Estoril. The Cronógrafo Estoril pays homage to the iconic Portuguese Estoril circuit, the most prestigious in the "Iberian Historic Endurance" series.

The watch pays homage to the iconic Estoril circuit in Portugal, the most prestigious in the historic Iberian endurance series. The dial is inspired by the vibrant colors of the Lotus 97T, the car Ayrton Senna drove to his first victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril in 1985.

The dial composition is enriched with a myriad of subtle and well-chosen details. While the silver-colored hour and minute hands and the small seconds counter at 9 o'clock are all leaf-shaped, the hands of the 30-minute counter and the 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock are presented in black with a prominent triangular tip. The chronograph hand matches the color of the counters. The tachymeter scale is displayed on a black background, improving readability. The word "Taquimetro," which means tachometer in Portuguese and Spanish, pays homage to the origins of historic racing.

With a diameter of 42 mm, the stainless steel case is a modern statement. On the back of the watch, the sapphire crystal reveals the automatic caliber CYS 8100, based on the Valjoux 7753. In addition, the crystal is decorated with a reproduction of the 4.182 km Estoril track.

The watch is presented on a perforated black calfskin driving-style strap with brown gold stitching. The perforations evoke the traditional racing gloves worn in the past.

Limited to 88 individually numbered pieces, this watch is a true treasure for collectors.

Nino Farina II

Cuervo y Sobrinos pays tribute to the first official Formula 1 world champion,

"Nino" Farina, who won the title in 1950.

"Nino Farina was a man of courage bordering on the improbable. Capable of daring stunts that were often his winning move. A great driver, but one who always had to be watched out for..." - this is the opening phrase with which Enzo Ferrari described Emilio Giuseppe Farina, known as Nino.

The Historiador Nino Farina II follows the highly acclaimed first limited series, which sold out in a very short time. It is a new chronograph, limited to 158 pieces, inspired by historic racing and featuring the colors of the iconic Alfa Romeo, but aimed at a modern audience.

Hemingway

Cuervo y Sobrinos once again pays tribute to its loyal customer Ernest Hemingway, the famous writer and authentic legend of the 20th century, by launching a new collection of 3 watches entirely dedicated to the writer, following a first limited edition series that has now sold out and was a great success. Under the patronage of John Hemingway, the writer's grandson, the watch collection will be launched in Key West, Florida, on the occasion of Hemingway Days 2023, the annual celebration that salutes the achievements of the Nobel Prize-winning writer and the appreciation of the island's laid-back lifestyle.

"Historiador Asturias"

Don Ramon Cuervo y Sobrinos hails from Asturias, a region in northwestern Spain. The Historiador Asturias pays tribute to these courageous Spanish emigrants who, in the 19th century, sailed to the Americas in search of good fortune. Cuba proved a popular choice for these intrepid Asturians, eager to discover a new world and build a better life.

Five different versions are available: four smoked dials in shimmering colors, in shades of blue, red, green, and tobacco, as well as a new smoked gray dial. The straps are made of "cordovan" leather typical of Asturias.

Historiador

Primera Dama

The Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Primera Dama is inspired by 1930s Havana, a world where dance, music, and hedonistic pleasures were the order of the day. Unmistakably feminine, this ladies' watch, adorned with numerous captivating details, is perfect for any occasion.

Cuervo y Sobrinos invites you to step back in time and imagine life in the 1930s, a time when Cuba attracted legions of tourists to its bustling streets and sun-drenched shores. With Prohibition in the United States lasting until December 1933, the Caribbean island, located just 90 miles off the coast of Florida, offered liberal laws on drinking and other hedonistic pleasures. Movie stars, famous politicians, and mobsters frequented the island's casinos, while couples danced to the swing music of big bands before emerging from the various art deco buildings onto the sultry streets, which still teemed with life even in the early hours of the morning.

To celebrate this energetic period in Cuban history, Cuervo y Sobrinos unveils a new collection of ladies' watches, the Historiador Primera Dama. This range of models inspired by that era is resolutely feminine.

All versions of the Historiador Primera Dama feature a mother-of-pearl dial, most of which are executed in vibrant tones. Each dial is enhanced with 3 or 12 diamonds, further enhancing the overall sense of sophistication. The leaf-shaped hour and minute hands convey an unambiguous meaning.

Housed in a 36 mm case and measuring 7.8 mm in height, the Historiador Primera Dama is elegantly slender. The case is available in stainless steel or stainless steel with gold PVD coating, the latter giving it a warm golden hue. As with other Historiador models, the lugs feature an ergonomic design that optimizes wearer comfort. Selected references feature a bezel set with 58 diamonds, which reinforces the model's captivating allure. On the back of the watch, the caseback is adorned with a depiction of an elegant lady wearing a cloche hat, typical of the period, and enhanced with a goose feather.

The watch is available on a color-coordinated shiny Louisiana alligator strap with a steel pin buckle or on a matching metal bracelet. At the heart of this timepiece is the CyS 1005 caliber, a quartz movement with a 34-month battery life, which offers a high level of precision and does not require winding.

Cuervo y Sobrinos invites you to celebrate the past with a watch perfectly suited to the present and the future.

Buceador

"Pipin"

In Spanish, "buceador" means "diver." It's the perfect name for this new watch dedicated to the pleasures of the sea and oceans, to the ocean depths...

The Buceador Caribe is a diver's watch inspired by the cyan colors of the Caribbean Sea, pastel sands and the aquatic environment

from the island of Cuba. The construction of its extremely complex, container-like case contributes to the model's impressive water resistance to a depth of 200 meters. This contemporary watch, with its distinct Caribbean charm, is both practical and elegant and is available in three different versions.

This limited edition was designed in collaboration with Pipin Ferreras, legendary Cuban freediver and friend of the brand,

It comes in a gradient of greens, embellished with black, cream and orange accents.

Limited edition of 100 pieces sold out! Last piece available at Fréret-Roy!

Common features of Buceador models:

Stainless steel or black DLC-treated steel case, 43 mm in diameter, 15.8 mm thick. Anti-reflective sapphire crystal, engraved steel caseback, water-resistant to 20 ATM. An ingenious pusher system, positioned at 4 o'clock, unlocks the crown at 2 o'clock, which adjusts the rotating inner bezel, allowing the diver to monitor their dive time. The main crown is positioned at 9 o'clock and is used to set and wind the movement.

The sand-colored hour and minute hands and the second hand are very original and treated like the indexes with Super-LumiNova, thus improving the readability of the dial in the dark. Date window at 6 o'clock.

Churchill first visited Cuba in 1895 at the age of only 21. As a young officer in the London-based Fourth Hussar Regiment, he was keen to take part in military action. He decided to join the Spanish army to fight against Cuban forces in a conflict known as the Cuban War of Independence (1895–1898). After traveling to Arroyo Blanco, some 400 km east of Havana, he faced enemy fire. His first glimpse of Cuba lasted only a few weeks, but it would not be his last time visiting the sun-drenched Caribbean island.

In early 1946, visibly scarred by his harrowing role in World War II, Churchill crossed the Atlantic Ocean at the invitation of President Truman. He lobbied America for a reconstruction loan for his country and delivered a series of speeches, but also spent considerable time seeing old friends, painting, and swimming. Most notably, he took the opportunity to visit Cuba for the second time, this time as an elder statesman.

President Truman offered Churchill the use of an American plane, which he accepted. Accompanied by his wife, Clementine, he traveled from Florida to Havana and stayed at the prestigious Hotel Nacional. During his stay on the island, he visited the Cuervo y Sobrinos store.

Clearly, many Cubans were delighted to see Churchill during his stay on the island. Likewise, Churchill seemed to enjoy his time in Cuba, especially while smoking his favorite Havana cigars. Indeed, the former prime minister was reportedly delighted to receive a gift of 500 Romeo y Julieta cigars, his favorite brand. The name Robusto is used to describe a short, "robust" cigar, a fitting name for this new, limited-edition model inspired by Churchill.

Churchill

Yalta Edition

In the collection previously called Robusto, the "Churchill" models have always had pride of place, and have given rise to various limited editions over the years. Indeed, Churchill, a great Havana smoker, had honored the island of Cuba, Havana and the Cuervo boutique many times with his visits!

This limited edition celebrates the meeting of Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin near Yalta in Crimea in February 1945, during which the three leaders, often referred to as the "Big Three," discussed the future of post-war Europe.

Cronógrafo GMT Megarotor

Vuelo Cronógrafo GMT

Megarotor

The Historiador Vuelo chronograph is one of the brand's most iconic historical models. Inspired by an original Cuervo y Sobrinos design from the 1940s, the Historiador Vuelo chronograph reveals a modern and sophisticated style, highlighted by its distinctive screw-down lugs.

The Vuelo chronograph features a contemporary touch highlighted by a complex multi-level dial with small seconds and minutes counters on the first level, 24 hours, indexes and numerals on the second level and printed minutes and seconds on the third level.

The case is distinguished by its incomparable complexity. Its construction is highly sophisticated, with lugs manufactured separately and perfectly screwed to the case. Their silhouette is in harmony with the shape of the chronograph pushers. The superb steel case, 44 mm in diameter and barely 14 mm thick (flat for an automatic chronograph!), is personalized on the side with the engraving "Vuelo" and houses a Dubois Dépraz 30342 movement with date and 24 hours and a power reserve of 40 hours. A tachymeter scale is engraved on the bezel.
The steel blue minute and hour hands with white SuperLumiNova give this watch a modern and attractive style. The steel blue central hand features a hollowed-out red arrowhead to highlight the Cuervo y Sobrinos coat of arms. The 24-hour hand is made of bright blue steel.
The Historiador Vuelo chronograph is completed with an elegant Louisiana alligator strap.

This traditional version of the Vuelo chronograph with an ivory dial has unique features compared to the Vuelo "Emilio Carranza" that has just entered production: the case has a very open sapphire caseback and the caliber is equipped with an oversized oscillating weight that significantly improves the rotation speed of the rotor and its ability to wind the movement. In addition, the central seconds hand of the chronograph is equipped with the large "arrow", "flechazo" in Spanish, and this hand presents an additional technical difficulty precisely by virtue of the size of its arrow. It is these notable technical differences, as well as the alligator strap and its folding clasp, that explain the higher price of the Vuelo Cronógrafo GMT Megarotor.

Espléndidos Collection

Espléndidos Scott Jacobs

In this incomparable case, a reinterpretation of a period case from the Art Deco years between 1920 and 1930 with a very recognizable iconic style, Cuervo y Sobrinos has partnered with the famous American artist Scott Jacobs, widely known for painting Harley Davidson motorcycles. This new creation, limited to 100 pieces, features a 1939 Knucklehead Bobber motorcycle on its dial !

Scott Jacobs, a renowned American artist and vintage motorcycle enthusiast, is widely known for painting Harley Davidsons, including the pre-war EL Knucklehead.

LThe Knucklehead was produced from 1936 to 1947, however, coveted by legions of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, it is the pre-war examples that remain the most alluring. Scott met two such enthusiasts, Patrick and Cris Simmons, who shared his passion for the iconic American brand. They owned a 1939 Knucklehead Bobber. Although this bike differed from its original factory specifications, its bright blue and yellow paint, "knobby fenders and tires" attracted many admiring glances.

The dial of the Scott Jacobs Espléndidos watch served as a horological canvas for the American artist to express his creativity. Initially, Scott produced a full-size original work. This work was then reproduced in miniature using a special 4-color laser printing technique. Each vibrant hue of the 1939 Knucklehead Bobber is beautifully depicted on the watch's distinctive dial.

CyS Historic Endurance Soldier

Historiador

Gran Premio de Cuba

This "automobile" chronograph refers to the historic car race of 1957 Cuban Grand Prix!

In the same spirit, Cuervo y Sobrinos is associated with the "Historic Endurance" race which revives the passion of "old-school" car racing!

Cuervo y Sobrinos has delved back to 1957, when Cuba hosted the Cuban Grand Prix. The aptly named Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba "1957" is a new chronograph, limited to 162 pieces, inspired by this historic race but designed for a modern audience.

The first Cuban Grand Prix, the Gran Premio de Cuba, took place in 1957. The race took place on the grand avenues and bustling esplanade of the Malecón, north of Havana.

In 1957, Juan Manuel Fangio, the famous Argentinian driver, secured victory in his Maserati 300S. The following year, on the eve of the race, anti-government revolutionaries kidnapped Fangio, but the race went ahead and Stirling Moss won in his Ferrari 335S. Unfortunately, the 1959 race was canceled due to political instability, but it returned one last time in 1960, when British driver Stirling Moss triumphed again, this time in a Maserati Tipo 61.

Dressed in a vibrant coral red, the dial evokes passion. Indeed, the sight of the brightly colored racing cars, launched at full speed around the circuit and driven to the limits of their maneuverability, must have been captivating. The cream-colored hour and minute hands are leaf-shaped, luminescent and plump, while their color gives the dial an old-world charm. The central chronograph seconds hand and those of the counters are baton-shaped. The two 30-minute and 12-hour counters are again cream-colored, while the small seconds display, located at 9 o'clock, is presented in a vibrant red.

The coral-red tones of the central dial area are framed by a cream circle that also serves as a telemetric scale. Beyond this telemetric scale, a black ring, fitting the inside of the case, houses a tachymeter. This function allows the wearer to determine the speed of a vehicle over a known distance.

Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba is housed in a stainless steel case. The dial sits beneath a double-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The two piston-shaped chronograph pushers are placed on the right side of the case, and the famous and characteristic "cow horn" lugs optimize wearer comfort.

The watch comes on a matte black "racing-style" leather strap. It features numerous perforations, a detail inspired by vintage racing gloves. Red stitching and a CyS-branded openwork clasp are two additional refinements. The caseback is adorned with a Gran Premio 1957 de Cuba insignia, and the model is limited to just 162 pieces. This latter number is inspired by the 162-mile race distance of the 1957 Gran Premio de Cuba.

At the heart of the Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba "1957" is a Swiss automatic movement, the CyS caliber 8099. Based on the Valjoux 7753, this movement features an engraved oscillating weight and a 48-hour power reserve.

With the revival of the Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba "1957," Cuervo y Sobrinos celebrates Cuba's rich and illustrious history. Furthermore, the brand's heritage is respected while appealing to today's watch enthusiasts and motorsport fans.

Rubusto Perpetual GMT

In the world of luxury watches, the "Perpetual Calendar" complication is one of the most popular. The Robusto Perpetual GMT, as its name suggests, is a watch whose perpetual calendar caliber adjusts the date taking into account months with 30 and 31 days, and also takes into account the month of February and leap years. The date displayed is therefore always accurate, provided the watch is properly wound. In addition, the GMT function allows the wearer to see both local and home time simultaneously, making it ideal for traveling abroad.
