We must first of all underline that Speake-Marin initiated in 2014 a movement strategy which aims to develop and assemble movements internally within its workshop in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. This new strategy gave birth to the “SMA” collection, which includes openwork movements, closed dials and Haute Horlogerie movements. Initially, Speake-Marin focused its efforts on 3 Hz Haute Horlogerie movements (Minute Repeater and Double Tourbillon). In a second step, Speake-Marin developed Hours Minutes Seconds 4Hz movements, which were presented in the new "One & Two" design with openwork dial with a movement called SMA01. This micro rotor movement placed at 9 o'clock, has the particularity of having its small second at 1:30 and has a power reserve of 52 hours. The movement of the One & Two Academic, not skeletonized, is called SMA03.

"Ripples" Collection!

Geneva, March 2022 – Speake-Marin opens a new creative chapter with the launch of a sport chic collection, the brand’s first ever bracelet watch in steel, called Ripples.

Ripples is inspired by modern architecture and designed for aesthetes of our times, with love for watchmaking details.

Ripples leads the way in this new sport chic collection, a reflection of our times, selected by the new aesthetes, the visionaries, the seekers of finesse, who overcome challenges in their fast-paced lives every day.

Discreet but complex, it adorns the wrist of those comfortable to be different and builds a bridge between tradition and the future.

The new case, called “La City” reflects the architecture of London's eponymous financial district, which combines business, heritage and design. A round square or a square in the round, Ripples offers an original shape and its "Big Ben" hands are a tribute to Speake-Marin's British roots.

Designed for the connoisseur who does not want to compromise on casual elegance, it is a piece that blends into everyday life and can be worn all week long, whether at work or under casual circumstances. Its exclusive contemporary design expresses the sharp taste and demonstrates a strong watchmaking knowledge of the wearer.

Its pure and precise shapes are reminiscent of the quest for perfect proportions by contemporary designers and architects. The new “Ripples” dial finishing developed by Speake-Marin is inspired by contemporary art and materials used for modern industrial design. Due to its innovative and complex dial, the watch looks different from every angle you look at it. As it reflects light in different ways, it changes colours and shapes.

The idea of the round in the square expression through its case, its wide Geneva stripes, hand bevelled bridges, inner angle, its "Ripples" dial and its light reflections push watchmaking beauty to an apparent simplicity.

“RIPPLES” Development

RIPPLES is part of a new chapter in the brand’s watchmaking tradition with the new inhouse movement SMA03-T coming out of the Swiss Research & Development department of Le Cercle Des Horlogers, a high end watch atelier which is owned by Speake-Marin President and CEO Christelle Rosnoblet. Its confident modernity is a step into the future for our collections with the new Sport Chic collection.

The small second at 1:30 is a unique Speake-Marin signature for its in-house movement’s. This reflects the brand’s know-how which pushes back the constraints of modern watchmaking. The SMA03-T is a 4 Hz automatic winding movement, its integrated micro-rotor is decorated with a sun-brushed finishing. The back of the case in sapphire crystal gives a glimpse into its complexity.

For this new collection, the SMA03 movement has been upgraded in terms of finishings to create SMA03-T, where “T” stands for “tradition” as a reference to traditional fine watchmaking know-how. With a power reserve of 52 hours, this timepiece has been exceptionally executed with hand-finished bridges, inner angle and is entirely rhodium-plated. A 2mm circular graining on the main plate was crafted, which will delight all connoisseurs attentive to movement decoration and design.

Ripples is a contemporary watch with a stainless-steel bracelet, which alternates polished and brushed links. Thanks to its smoothness and softness the bracelet is very comfortable to wear.

The watch has an integrated screwed steel crown, is a 5 ATM waterproof and thanks to its integration into the case has great ergonomics as well as a secure double folding claps.

RIPPLES is an expression of elegance and finesse, and can be worn everywhere and at any time.

The new SMA03-T Calibre is part of the SMA movement family and follows the Openworked collection approach with the small seconds at 1:30. The T-reference stands for “Tradition” because traditional and very high-end finishings have been added to this movement: rhodium, inner angle, hand-polished angle among others.

 One & Two Collection

For this collection, Speake Marin has chosen not to have a dial ... The manufacture's design studio wanted a clean and refined design where the movement plays the role of a dial.
Speake-Marin draws its inspiration from architecture and design, so the design studio decided to design a collection with a three-dimensional dial, which emphasizes the complication of the watch. It allows you to discover the key elements of the timepiece which evolve throughout the day through the different lights and shadows.
Finally, it testifies to Speake-Marin's watchmaking know-how: integrated micro-rotor, small wheels, rubies, sunburst finishes and decorations.

For the One & Two collection, Speake-Marin developed Hours Minutes Seconds 4Hz movements, which were presented in the new One & Two openwork dial design with a movement called SMA01. This movement has the particularity of having its small seconds at 1:30.

The new Speake Marin Piccadilly case is available, depending on the version, in polished grade 5 titanium or in 18kt pink gold and in two sizes 38 mm or 42 mm. Both the glass and the caseback are made of sapphire crystal and are anti-reflective. Waterproof to 3atm, the thickness is between 10.50 and 10.90 mm.

One & Two Openworked HMS V3

In september 2021, Speake-Marin revisited its iconic Openworked Hours Minutes Seconds with a new version: Openworked V3. The design is inspired by modern architecture and belongs to the One& Two collection, which highlights the Speake-Marin in-house movement.

INSPIRATION

This new aesthetic follows the codes of the One& Two Openworked collection with a strong element positioned at 1:30. For the SMA01, the strong element is the small second counter. The objective is to show the movement from the inside and to give a very uncluttered look and feel.

To do so, the chosen finish on the bottom plate is brushed (direction 1:30) versus a circular graining finish in the past editions. The sun burst Geneva stripes finish has been kept to highlight the small second counter which is the vanishing point of the dial.

The intention of the One& Two Openworked collection is to play with light and shadow. The different surface decorations and treatments on the components create a wide variation of light reflections and depth perspectives.

For this new version, the black colour has been introduced on the triangular bridge and the second counter to bring modernity. The Speake-Marin creation studio takes indeed inspiration from modern design and architecture, especially black architecture for its latest creations that you can find everywhere in megacities like London. The black colour evokes power, elegance and sophistication.

Both contemporary with the dial and classic with the case, it will please watch aficionados who want to affirm their style and individuality with an audacious watch choice that will differentiate them from others.

MOVEMENT

The movement featured in the One&Two Openworked Hours Minutes Seconds is the SMA01 Calibre: an Openworked movement, which integrates a micro-rotor. It has been designed, developed and assembled in our Haute Horlogerie workshop near Neuchatel, in Switzerland.

The SMA01 movement is inspired by the architectural «Deconstructivism movement», which challenges the regular architecture and opens new possibilities: sloping walls, sloping floors, rounded rooftops, etc… (cf. Franck Gehry, Daniel Liebeskind, Zaha Hadid among others)

In this case, Speake-Marin challenges the position of the small second and imagines it at 1:30. It generates a new movement design with rounded bridges, openings in the plate, new positions of the wheels and a vanishing point at 1:30. The movement has a visual balance between the barrel, the oscillating mass and the small seconds at 1:30. It creates a triangle shape, which plays with the number “three”. This design is the foundation for the whole Speake-Marin Openworked movement collection.

The SMA01 calibre has been optimized for this new SMA01 generation and includes now a reverse wheel allowing a self-winding on both rotations.

One & Two Openworked

This model "One & Two Openworked"

is presented exclusively in Paris at Fréret Roy.

The “One & Two” Openwork presents the Caliber SMA01, which remains very thin and efficient by integrating its micro rotor with the bridges. This latest version has been reworked for more purity in the design, particularly at the level of the small seconds which is integrated into the movement without any ring thanks to a very sophisticated module. Each movement is COSC certified, ensuring the precision of this fully assembled and hand adjusted movement.
The SMA01 caliber is found in the new version of the Piccadilly case, an evolution of the iconic Speake-Marin case which allows the bracelet to be integrated closer to the case, thus improving wearing comfort.

One & Two Openworked Dual Time "Mint"

This new aesthetic is very modern thanks to its mix of colors - mint green, silver and matt black - and the sharp angles of its bridges. Both hyper contemporary with its dial and classic with its Piccadilly box, this piece will delight travelers who wish to assert their style and personality with a daring aesthetic choice that will set them apart from others. The color Mint was chosen as an ode to freedom, an aspiration to travel by referring to the color of the Caribbean Sea, the Indian Ocean or the South Seas. Speake-Marin is also inspired by the black architectural movement (found in all megalopolises like London) by playing with applications of dark gray and black on the box and bridges.

This movement is housed in the latest version of the Piccadilly case in black DLC-treated titanium, the latest evolution of the iconic Speake-Marin case. Remember that DLC stands for “Diamond-like carbon”. This coating is made of carbon particles and is chemically applied to the box. This application has the advantage of being extremely resistant to scratches and durable over time.

One & Two Academic

"One & Two Academic" is presented exclusively in Paris at Fréret Roy.

Following the success of the One & Two "Openworked" model presented above, which introduced the new Piccadilly case and the Speake-Marin SMA01 movement, Speake-Marin launched a new generation of One & Two with a closed dial: the “Academic” model, Caliber SMA03.

Like the trend of using old components in designer furniture or the automotive industry, Speake-Marin offers to revive old movements in new designs.
The "Chronograph London" collection gives pride of place to old calibers. Each year, iconic vintage movements are brought up to date and equip watch models from this collection.
A tribute to the heritage of fine watchmaking.
The objective of this collection is to recall how important the know-how of the watch industry is in terms of movement development. The great movements of the past continue to inspire designers and engineers today.

For this new limited edition, Speake-Marin pays tribute to one of the most popular chronograph models of the 20th century: the Caliber Valjoux 88, often considered the best manually-wound chronograph of all time, thanks to its columns and its three counters.

Rhinoceros

Speake-Marin has developed a limited edition of 9 pieces in partnership with the London charity "Save the Rhino International", an organization that works to ensure that all five rhino species thrive in the wild by protecting their habitat, reducing illegal trade, involving local communities and bringing together experts.
