When we launched our first Fréret-Roy 1818 watches in 2011, the creation of our brand and our models was based on one idea: to offer our customers the watches they wanted. Our customers regularly asked us for a modern skeleton watch at a reasonable price, and that's how our first skeleton watch, the "Open Heart® New Wave", was born.
Why a Tourbillon watch ?
As with all our other creations, it was discussions with our clients, or at least some of them, that inspired us to produce a tourbillon watch in a small series of ten pieces to celebrate the tenth anniversary of our first AOC collection! These loyal clients had expressed the idea and the desire to acquire a skeleton tourbillon (our specialty) at a price that would still be "affordable" compared to competing offerings from established brands or well-known independent watchmakers. That's how we embarked on this challenge. We invite you to discover this new Coeur Ouvert® Tourbillon below...
In short...
It was the convergence of talents from independent watchmakers and myself—as a modest watchmaking entrepreneur—and of course from my wife Sophie and our children, as well as the contribution of the first purchasers of our "Open Heart® Tourbillon," that allowed us to finalize its design, thus giving birth to the first tourbillon produced by an independent French brand, our own. Since then, other French brands have followed suit by launching their own tourbillon models, but we were pioneers in this field, and our skeleton tourbillon remains unique.
The 100% Swiss components of the in-house manufactured caliber were the obvious choice for our independent French brand, whose family origins date back to the 18th century in Couvet, Switzerland, also known as the "Val de Travers," a well-known village in the Canton of Neuchâtel. Our Swiss roots alone justify our choice of a Swiss caliber.

Distinctive features of our
"Coeur Ouvert® Tourbillon"
Limited edition of 10 pieces
Our Coeur Ouvert® Tourbillon is offered in our "Coeur Ouvert® Nouvelle Vague V2 T" case, which has been handcrafted from the original CONV2 case, with a diameter of 42mm, in hand-satin-finished steel, featuring a domed sapphire crystal, which benefits from a very high-quality reinforced anti-reflective treatment applied to both sides and a sapphire case back.
Designed and manufactured by an independent production workshop, our tourbillon caliber is an integrated in-house movement, with no generic base. Certified "Chronofiable," this hand-wound caliber beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and is adjusted in six positions. It boasts a substantial power reserve of approximately four days (measured between 95 and 100 hours). The tourbillon is positioned beneath an arched bridge, centered at 6 o'clock; it was this "architectural" aspect that led us to choose a tourbillon under a bridge, rather than a flying tourbillon, which is less in line with our philosophy.
In the spirit of a Civil Engineering Masterpiece*
The skeleton design is by Michel Fréret-Roy; both the cut and the model are registered with the INPI (French National Institute of Industrial Property).
This design was inspired by the design and construction of civil engineering structures—one of the most beautiful fields in public works, a sector in which I spent part of my career, the profession of my father, Jean Fréret, who contributed to the construction in the second half of the 20th century of two of France’s most famous “engineering structures,” the Tancarville Bridge and the Normandy Bridge. This drawing of the Coeur Ouvert® Tourbillon is dedicated to him.
Once skeletonized, the tourbillon movement is micro-blasted and then treated in anthracite gray, as is the flange. The tourbillon bridge at 6 o'clock, whose shape is reminiscent of a bridge and also of the movement's "archs," is rhodium-plated. The movement's screws are blued steel.
Very rare, it is produced in a very limited series since there will be no more than ten pieces produced in this execution, which makes its production cost much higher than many competing productions made in one hundred or one thousand copies.
Our exclusive dial is signed at 3 o'clock!
To ensure that the skeleton movement is fully visible, we have placed the brand logo—which looks like the Roman numeral “III”—at 3 o'clock.
Our logo, which is strikingly similar to the Roman numeral "III", rightfully finds its place in this strategic location that cannot be missed as soon as the shirt sleeve partially reveals the watch! A signature logo that speaks for itself, a strong identifying mark.
The hours are indicated by "capsules" set on the rehaut, hand-filled with superluminova just like the logo. Their color matches the hands.
Each piece has its individual number engraved between the lugs at 6 o'clock.
The bracelet is made of full-skin anthracite grey alligator leather.
The butterfly folding clasp is hand-satin-finished and bears our brand logo, hand-engraved.

The spring as a power reserve indicator
The spring is a natural indicator of the power reserve of the Tourbillon caliber!
When it needs to be wound, the spring is relaxed, "open in the center", thus indicating that the watch needs to be wound.
Here the spring is wound, the 4-day power reserve is full.

Handmade in Paris by a former student of the École Boulle, according to our design, The Fréret-Roy 1818 jewelry boxes are manufactured from precious wood: Santos rosewood or olive ash burl. Any type of wood available by special order!
Manufacturing time of 9 months!
The interior compartments are made of wood, are removable, and are lined with "antelope" colored Alcantara, as is their protective lid. and can be easily placed in a safe. They are designed to hold three watches of a good diameter, the sides of the cushions are made of ebony.
The box, whose structure is made of Spanish cedar, is ideal for storing cigars, but can accommodate any other object of your choice.
