Located in the canton of Geneva, in the commune of Meyrin, the Montres Chouriet SA factory is above all a story of family, watchmaking passion and love for the Geneva region. To understand the birth of the brand, we must go back in time a little and undertake a journey in two stages, the first at the end of the 17th century and the second just before the turn of the millennium.
In 1685, Emile Chouriet opened his watchmaking workshop in Geneva. He made the decoration of pocket watches his specialty, some of whose components were supplied to him by François Dagobert Depéry. The range of his creative work – from enameling to guilloché, pearl setting and the use of gold of different colors – allowed Emile Chouriet to distinguish himself and gain the appreciation of the Genevan aristocracy. In the 17th century, well before the appearance of the first factories, watchmaking was an artisanal work that was carried out in a workshop or counter and combined the know-how of several people, like Emile Chouriet the watchmaker who obtained his components from François Dagobert Depéry.
This almost magical synergy born from the combination of different talents, from the marriage of different personalities, is a precious asset that Montres Chouriet SA wishes to perpetuate. An “old-fashioned” way of working that can be found and felt today within the walls of the Geneva factory.
More than three centuries later, after training in microtechnology, Jean Depéry continued the work of his ancestor, François Dagobert Depéry, by launching into the design and production of watch components. In 1998, in homage to the past and family tradition, Jean Depéry founded his own timepiece brand, Montres Chouriet SA, based in Geneva.
It is in Meyrin, a dynamic town in the canton of Geneva, that the building that houses Montres Chouriet SA is located. Inaugurated in 2012, it brings together the manufacture and the various departments of the company under one roof. In 2016, the brand presented its first "in-house" movement, designed within its manufacture. Three years of development were necessary to give birth to the self-winding caliber EC5318. And for once, it is a "small" movement that today mainly equips women's models, due to the size of the caliber.

Thanks to brilliant Geneva watchmakers, Montres Chouriet has developed an exceptional movement which allows the celestial path of the Moon to be visualized.
Behind the solid steel case back lies the automatic manufacture caliber EC 5378, a variation of the EC 5318 caliber – the very first automatic movement developed and produced in-house by Emile Chouriet. Perfectly adapted to the moon phase, the movement’s baseplate directly accommodates the complication, thus avoiding the need for modular construction. The Research and Development team at the Emile Chouriet manufacture in Geneva designed the movement to be both robust and easy to adjust. When fully wound, it provides a power reserve of 45 hours.
Unlike the dial of most watches, where the moon phase indication occupies only a small part, that of the Challenger Explorer is almost entirely dedicated to displaying this complication. Integrated into a satin-finished blue metal disc, the mother-of-pearl moon completes a full rotation of the dial in 29.5 days, the average length of a lunar month. As the waxing and waning phases of the lunar cycle follow one another, a raised metal disc above the dial – identical in colour and finish to the moon phase disc – gradually hides the mother-of-pearl moon to reveal the different phases of the star as they can be observed from Earth. The crown allows the moon phase function to be easily adjusted, in the same way as the date is set.
On the back of the watch, the solid steel caseback reveals an engraving depicting the Hubble telescope in orbit and the star Icarus, a blue supergiant discovered by the Department of Astronomy at the University of Geneva, in collaboration with astronomers from different countries and institutes. Located 9 billion light-years from Earth, it is the most distant star ever recorded. Its discovery is the symbol of a spirit of collaboration focused on a common goal, which also characterizes the Geneva watchmaking tradition.

Inspired by the rugged and majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps, the Challenger Cliff’s 41 mm steel case is coated in dark grey PVD, evoking the deep darkness of the night sky and the cosmos, in striking contrast to the meteorite dial. Its powerful geometric lines with pronounced edges give the watch a very robust appearance that echoes its performance. Its 5 ATM (50 meters) water resistance ensures its resistance in all conditions. To complete the ensemble, the integrated steel bracelet, with a subtle vertical satin finish and polished edges, perfectly follows the lines of the case.
